Jordan Henderson added his name to an illustrious list on Saturday as he captained Liverpool to Champions League glory.

The plan to bestow Henderson with the incredible honour has been confirmed by Sunderland City Council, though plans are said to be at an early stage.

"He has always been a fantastic ambassador for his home city, his club and his country.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from the Black Cats in 2011, and won his second trophy with the Reds at the weekend following League Cup success in 2012.

Henderson arrived at the England training camp on Tuesday along with team-mates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

With Gareth Southgate's side set to face Ronald Koeman's Netherlands team on Thursday in the Nations League semi-final.
