Jordan Henderson sends title message to Liverpool fans as season hangs in balance

Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool's stars will be ready to hit the ground running in the Premier League, when the time comes for football to return.

All professional football in the UK has been postponed until at least April 30 to help prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.

Liverpool were just two wins away from Premier League glory before the suspension brought their title charge to a temporary halt.

And Reds captain Henderson insists that he and his team-mates will be ready to pick up where they left off once the season resumes, even if they have to play lots of games in a short period of time.

"It is important [to remain focused]. This is why we keep doing the work that we've been given, keep doing the training stuff because there will come a time – whenever that is – that we need to go back and start training and play games pretty quickly," Henderson told Liverpool's official website.

"I'm sure all the lads are doing the stuff to keep ticking over for when we are ready to go back in when it's safe for us to do so and we can start the Premier League again – that's all we can do really.

There is much uncertainty as to how the remainder of the campaign will pan out, with arguments for and against the season being cancelled and all results expunged.

Rio Ferdinand is among the pundits advocating for the current Premier League campaign to be null and void, with football restarting once again next season.

Other pundits, including Gary Neville, believe the current season should be extended beyond the scheduled final day in May to allow for it to be concluded.
