Jordan Henderson says Liverpool will be 'forever grateful' to Gerard Houllier

Jordan Henderson says Liverpool will be 'forever grateful" to Gerard Houllier, who passed away today aged 73.

Houllier revolutionised Liverpool in a six-year spell between 1998 and 2004, modernising the club's approach to training and preparation for games, before leading the Reds to a historic treble season in 2000/01.

The UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup were all won as the Reds competed in every game possible in one season, before adding the UEFA Super Cup and Charity Shield later that year.

He also handed a debut to Henderson's predecessor as Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, before handing him the armband in 2003.

The Frenchman remained a devoted Liverpool fan and spoke of his joy after seeing Henderson club lift the Premier League title earlier this year.

And the Reds skipper tweeted: "A great man and a great manager. Liverpool will be forever grateful. Gérard Houllier - Repose en paix."

Tributes to Houllier have poured in from across the football world, and the likes of Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen and Phil Thompson all expressing their sadness at the passing of their former manager.
