Jordan Henderson's gesture for Liverpool canteen staff member sums him up completely

Jordan Henderson's qualities have been summed up in a story by Liverpool canteen staff member Carol Farell.

The Reds captain has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, leading the Merseyside outfit to domestic and European glory.

His leadership qualities have come in for particular praise with the midfielder having to overcome the odds early in his Anfield career.

Now a crucial piece of the jigsaw for Jurgen Klopp, Henderson's class clearly extends beyond the pitch.

Farell has recalled a story in which she received a surprise visit from the 31-year-old during a difficult period.

“You’re a role model and a leader — not just at Liverpool but on England duty as well. Young players look up to you and you inspire them,” she told the Athletic in a heartfelt letter to the captain.

“I’ll never forget that day two years ago when you and Adam Lallana turned up at my front door in Anfield. I was suffering from some health problems at the time. I’d had a tough time.

“I had the shock of my life seeing you two there on the doorstep. I just couldn’t get my words out.

“Jordan, you came in, put the kettle on and we had a lovely chat. You asked what you could do to help because you didn’t want me to worry about anything.

“You told me how much all the boys were missing me and they couldn’t wait to have me back in work.

"That was such a lovely gesture. It’s something I’ll never forget. You really put yourself out.

“In the months that followed, you continued to phone me regularly to check how I was. I’ve been away from the training ground during the pandemic and I’ve really missed it.”

Henderson's stock within the Liverpool camp is extremely high.

That was underline when Klopp too expressed his feelings about the Reds skipper received an individual accolade back in December last year.

He said: "This Liverpool team they say we don't have one superstar. For us the team is the star. This is true. But you are a superstar at making us that team.

"Jordan, people too often ignore your quality. But not me and not your team-mates.

"After a touch journey with many obstacles everyone can see it - personality, character and ability. The complete package.

"You led our club to ending a 30-year wait. You did it with humility and grace. You're a world class athlete and football player but you are an even better human being."
