Jordan Henderson's dad reveals his pride after watching his son lift the Champions League trophy

Jordan Henderson's dad has revealed his pride after watching his son lift the Champions League trophy with Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Henderson captained the Reds as they beat Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid and the pair were captured embracing at full-time in an emotional and heart-warming moment.

Brian has had a long battle with throat cancer but has recently recovered and was at the game.

And reacting after, the Sunderland academy graduate's dad revealed his pride in his son, and also a prophecy that a ten-year-old Jordan made him.

He told Optus Sport after the game: "Absolutely [I'm the proudest man in the world right now]. I didn't expect it the way the game was going. I thought it was going into extra time because they all looked dead on their feet.

"But they came through and I'm just so proud - unbelievably proud.

"I took him to see the Champions League final when he was ten in Manchester between AC Milan and Juventus and he said to me as they came out, 'Dad, I'm going to play there one day'.

"He's not only done it once, but twice now and now he's won it as well and we're absolutely delighted for him.

"If he hadn't lifted that trophy today it could have given him a bad, bad summer. But he can go and enjoy his summer now. He'll have a rest, spend time with his children."

As captain, Henderson lifted the trophy for what was the sixth time in Liverpool's history.

And Brian tried to also sum up his feelings during that moment, saying: "It was just very emotional - the tears came, I started shaking, I grabbed my wife, I grabbed my daughter-in-law, I grabbed anyone that was around me!

"I'm just so, so happy."
