Jordan Henderson made light of his disallowed Merseyside derby winner by joking that VAR can "bend the line sometimes to make it offside".
The Liverpool captain fired past Jordan Pickford to put his side 3-2 up against Everton in added time in Saturday's lunchtime game.
But Henderson's smile was wiped from his face as Sadio Mane, who assisted the strike, was judged by VAR to have been offside in the build-up to the goal.
The decision left commentators and pundits bewildered, as to the naked eye Mane appeared to be in line with Everton's defenders.
Discussing the incident after the match, Henderson could only offer an amusing conspiracy theory to explain the VAR verdict.
"They bend the line sometimes to make it offside," the 30-year-old told BT Sport .
"Disappointed we haven't got the win. The overall performance, the chances we created, I think we deserved to win the game. Everton would be happier with the draw."
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was equally confused by the offside decision in his post-match interview.
He said: "I saw the Henderson goal back. I didn't see an offside, sorry. Maybe someone will explain it to me but the picture we saw was not offside. But it was offside because someone decided it was."

Meanwhile, Henderson was pleased with the way Liverpool bounced back from their 7-2 thrashing by Aston Villa a fortnight ago.
He added: "The Villa game was bad, we all know that, but it's about the reaction. Some of the football and chances we created today was brilliant.
"For us, the biggest game is the next game, which is Ajax [in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday]. We always concentrate on what's important and that's the next game."
