Jordan Henderson on why he was 'ready to kill' former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez

Jordan Henderson has opened up on how he was "ready to kill" former team-mate Luis Suarez at the start of his Liverpool career.

The current Reds skipper joined the club in 2011 after sealing a £20million move from boyhood club Sunderland.

But by the time the England international had linked with Liverpool, Suarez had already established himself as one of the leading forwards in European football, with a reputation as being one of the most aggressive players in the game.

And although Henderson has since led the Reds to Champions League glory, the midfielder revealed how he was made to feel as though he wasn’t good enough to be in the same team as the Uruguayan.

"I was trying to do the best I can do. Being a footballer, there is criticism and people doubting you all the time,” Henderson told Jamie Carragher’s The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher podcast.

"At that time, I was a young player and there were one or two things Luis did in training that I didn't like.

"It made me feel I wasn't good enough to be in the same team in training.

"The arms were up like 'what the f***, what is he doing', like I shouldn't be there.

"That really hurt me. He did it three times and then I exploded and I was ready to kill him.

"From that point, I had a good relationship with Luis. The next game I set him up for his goal.

"He was brilliant with me after that and I was really close to him after that and he was another big player I learned from."

Suarez eventually left the Reds in the summer of 2014 to join Spanish giants Barcelona.
