Jordan Henderson is ready to reprise his emergency centre-back role – but is hopeful Virgil van Dijk will be fit for Liverpool's bid to rule the world.
Van Dijk remains a doubt for Saturday's FIFA Club World Cup final against Flamengo having missed the semi-final win over Mexican side Monterrey through illness.
With Gini Wijnaldum injured and Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren unavailable, Henderson was asked to slot in at centre-back alongside Joe Gomez.
The Reds skipper acquitted himself well as Jurgen Klopp's side beat Monterrey 2-1 on Wednesday here in Qatar, and is primed for a repeat if Van Dijk is unavailable.
“It was different to anything that I have been used to,” said Henderson. “I’ve played at full-back but I’ve never played there before.
“I just tried to do my best for the team and thankfully we got the win in the end.
“I don’t know what will happen with Virgil on Saturday. Fingers crossed he will be okay.
“Of course, if the manager needed me to go there again, I would do it. It is anything to help the team.”
Liverpool were made to work hard for their victory with Roberto Firmino coming off the bench to score the winner in the first minute of injury time.
The Reds prioritised the Club World Cup by sending a full squad to Qatar, leaving a group of youngsters to compete in their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa, which they lost 5-0.
And Henderson added: “We are here – we wanted to come here, we wanted to get to the final and we want to win. We have done the first bit by getting to the final and now we want to win it.
“That’s the mentality of this team. It was tough (against Monterrey); I’m sure it will be tough again on Saturday because they are another tough opponent.
“Now we want to put on a good performance to win another trophy.”
Asked if any of Liverpool's Brazilian contingent had provided information on final opponents Flamengo, Henderson added: “Bobby and Alisson haven’t told us anything about them yet – the first thing we had to do was make sure we were in the final.
“We found a way to win again in the end. We are there, where we wanted to be, and hopefully we will find a way to win again on Saturday, too.”
