Jordan Henderson leads donations to Jordan Sinnott shirt appeal after footballer's death

The family and friends of Jordan Sinnott are appealing for football shirts to be donated in a bid to help the non-league footballer leave a legacy.

Sinnott lost his life aged 25 on Saturday after being attacked in Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Four men have now been arrested after a murder investigation was launched. One of the men has also been formally charged with a separate assault.

Despite the tragic circumstances, Sinnott’s family are hoping that the former Huddersfield and Halifax star can leave a legacy - and hope their fundraising appeal can do just that.

In a heartfelt post shared on social media, Sinnott’s brother Tom explained that they were looking for football shirts from up and down the country with ‘Sinnott 25’ on the back to be donated.

Following the funeral, the idea is for the shirts to be donated to Sport Relief for less privileged children around the world.

Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson have headed the list of stars already involved as they posed with Rangers and Liverpool shirts which will be donated to the fund.

Tons of football clubs from professional leagues in England and Scotland, as well as non-league and grassroots teams, have already donated shirts.

Pictures of shirts donated by Wigan Athletic and Darlington FC have already been shared on an Instagram page set up for the appeal.

Writing about the appeal, Tom said:“Hello my name is Tom Sinnott and recently my brother passed away on a night out after being assaulted.

“His name was Jordan Sinnott and was a semi-professional footballer who had stints in the Football League.

“My brother was an amazing man and for his funeral, we had an idea to acquire donated football shirts from any team that wanted to with ‘Sinnott 25’ printed on the back.

“Safe to say that we have had confirmation that nearly every team in the English leagues have provided one with Scottish teams, non-league and Sunday leagues also providing.

“After the funeral we would like to donate every shirt to Sport Relief so that children abroad can have them and we can be happy knowing that he has helped other children.

“We were hoping this could be aired or mentioned as it would mean the world to family and friends and would cement his legacy of how much of an amazing person he was.”
