Jordan Henderson injury update as Liverpool face late fitness tests for Southampton

Jurgen Klopp will make a number of late decisions when picking his starting XI for Saturday's meeting with Southampton as Liverpool staff assess the extent of "bumps and bruises" throughout the squad.

The Reds return to Premier League action this weekend after a two-week break enforced by the postponement of Sunday's visit to Manchester United.

They will do so with pretty much the same squad available to Klopp, who expects his line-up to be dictated by the status of minor knocks.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the German said: "The injury situation, nothing really new, we have a few bumps and bruises.

"We have to make late decisions on a few positions until tomorrow."

Nathaniel Phillips was set to end a two-game absence at Old Trafford having been named in the starting XI prior to the match getting called off.

On the Englishman, Klopp added: "He was fit yesterday. The week helped him for sure."

The Liverpool boss also provided a positive update on Jordan Henderson, who is in the final stages of his rehabilitation from a groin injury sustained in February.

He continued: "While we are sitting here, Hendo is running outside, that's what I can say, nothing else.

"He was not in team training yet and that's it pretty much."
