Jordan Henderson has fan request ahead of Liverpool vs Chelsea

Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday evening in what will be the biggest test for either side so far this season.

The Reds have beaten both Norwich City and Burnley in their opening two games, while Chelsea have overcome Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Anfield was at full capacity for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic last weekend as Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane fired Jurgen Klopp's side to a second consecutive victory.

Now, the Reds will need the ground to be in full voice once again when they host Thomas Tuchel's side this evening.

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson reflected on the atmosphere against Burnley and the extra push the fans give the team.

“After going almost 18 months without playing in front of a capacity crowd at Anfield, today we will play in front of a full house for the second time in a week," the Liverpool captain wrote in his programme notes. "I can safely say that I speak for all of the lads when I say we really can’t wait.

“When I speak to former players they always have stories to tell about how the supporters created an atmosphere that inspired them and sometimes intimidated opponents. It is exactly the same for the current generation.

“I can tell you, in the days and weeks leading up to the Burnley game, we as players were talking about the return of supporters to Anfield.

“At the start of the game it was hard to hear ourselves think, never mind pick up whatever instructions we were shouting to one another, but that is exactly the way we want it to be. That’s how we want Anfield to be every time.

“I’ve no doubt that today will be exactly the same. Chelsea are never anything other than a top-class opponent and they arrive at Anfield as European champions, so it goes without saying that everyone who bleeds Liverpool red will need to bring their A-game."

Liverpool's last meeting with Chelsea at Anfield ended in a 1-0 defeat to the London club as Klopp's side found themselves in a tight battle for top four at the end of the previous campaign.

However, the Reds present a far stronger prospect this time around with the return of central defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and the addition of Ibrahima Konate.

Chelsea, though, have looked to solve their goalscoring troubles with the £97.5m transfer of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
