Jordan Henderson forced off with injury against Everton as Liverpool crisis continues

Jordan Henderson has been forced off with an injury in the Merseyside Derby.

The Liverpool captain went down under a challenge from Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in the first half of the match at Anfield.

The England international, who has recently been deployed as a makeshift centre-back for Liverpool, tried to play on after receiving treatment.

But Henderson, who was seen mouthing "You're joking" after initially suffering the injury, was unable to shake off the knock, and was eventually replaced by Nat Phillips.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have been hit exceptionally hard with injuries this season.

Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher said: "More problems for Liverpool at centre-back with the captain going off. This isn't great for Liverpool."

Klopp has been forced to play 16 different centre-back pairings at Liverpool this season, due to the amount of injuries his side have suffered.

By bringing on Phillips for Henderson, to partner new signing Ozan Kabak, Klopp has now played 17 different centre-back pairings.

Liverpool have struggled for results this season as a result of the injuries, with star men including Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara missing at one point or another this campaign.

Liverpool are currently 16 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table, and need a minor miracle to get themselves back in the title race.
