Jordan Henderson ends Liverpool speculation by signing new long-term contract

Jordan Henderson has ended speculation over his Liverpool future by signing a new long-term contract.

Henderson has put pen to paper on a new deal that will extend his Anfield commitment until 2025.

There were reports the Liverpool captain would consider leaving after talks over a new deal took time in finding an agreement.

But successful negotiations mean the 31-year-old midfielder could now spend up to 14 years at the club he joined for £16million from Sunderland in the summer of 2011.

Liverpool have spent much of the summer looking to retain the core of Jurgen Klopp's squad for the long term, with Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk all having signed extended contracts.

Youngsters Caoimhin Kelleher and Harvey Elliott have also penned new deals, along with goalkeeper Adrian.

Henderson has thus far made 394 appearances for the Reds while scoring 49 goals, and has skippered them to success in the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

He also won the League Cup in 2012 and was named Footballer of the Year in 2019.
