Jordan Henderson demands Krasimir Balakov apology after confronting Bulgaria boss during qualifier

Jordan Henderson has demanded Krasimir Balakov apologise to the England team after confronting the Bulgaria boss during Monday’s qualifier in Sofia.

The Euro 2020 qualifier was twice halted in the first period as racist chanting was directed towards England's black players and the team dugout.

Some supporters in home sections of the ground were also seen making Nazi salutes, while the stadium was already partially-closed stadium because of previous sanctions for racism.

Despite the abuse being audible on live television, Bulgaria boss Balakov told reporters: "I didn't actually hear anything but I just talked to the English press downstairs and I told them that if this is proven to be true, then we have to be ashamed and we have to apologise for it.”

Henderson was seen speaking to Balakov during one of the breaks in play and dismissed his version of events.

“I had a few words with the manager. It wasn’t acceptable – something needs to be done,” Henderson told Sky Sports News.

”He needs to apologise now, really, on behalf of the team and the fans. He knows what was going on. He was asking me what the problem was. When I told him he knew what was going on, it was baffling how he didn’t, really. Hopefully he looks back and apologises because anyone watching that game would be disgusted really.”
