Jordan Green transfer race heats up as Motherwell join Hearts in battle for winger

Motherwell have joined Hearts in the race to land Barnsley wideman Jordan Green on loan.

Record Sport revealed on Friday the 24-year-old had been targeted by former boss Daniel Stendel as part of his mid-season overhaul at Tynecastle.

But the Jambos face a fight for Green with Motherwell and an unnamed English League One club also
interested in the lightning-quick utility man.

Stephen Robinson is understood to want the former Fulham and Bournemouth kid to give him another option on the flanks at Fir Park.

Green can operate at
full-back or in an advanced position on either wing but hasn’t featured for the Tykes since Stendel’s last game in charge in October.

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber is keen to cut his bloated squad and Green is one of several players available on loan – with Hearts also interested in frontman Mamadou Thiam who is out of contract in the summer.

The Jambos have made contact over both players but have yet to seal a deal as Stendel waits to make his first signing in Gorgie.

Green has 18 months left on his deal at Oakwell after being signed by the German from Yeovil Town 12 months ago.

Robinson is also waiting to make his first signing of the January window with a striker high on his list after Devante Cole’s loan deal from Wigan expired.

The Fir Park side are facing a fight to hold on to Declan Gallagher with Swansea, Wigan and Bristol City weighing up moves. Peterborough and Charlton are also reported to be keen on the Scotland stopper.
