Jordan Firstman Backtracks On Heated Rivalry Critiques After Backlash From Stars & Fans

Jordan Firstman has backtracked on his comments about Heated Rivalry, days after his criticism of the steamy show caught the ire of both its stars and legions of fans.

Firstman, who is currently starring in comedy series I Love LA, got tongues wagging earlier this week when he slammed the sex scenes — of which there are plenty — in Heated Rivalry, a gay romp that premiered on HBO Max last month.

When asked his thoughts on the series in an interview with Vulture, Firstman said, “I’m sorry, I watched those first two episodes of Heated Rivalry and it’s just not gay. It’s not how gay people fuck. There’s so few things that actually show gay sex.”

He later said he “go[es] to art to be confronted and to think, but a lot of people just want entertainment or to see two straight hockey players pretending to be gay and fucking”.

The interviewer quickly clarified that neither of Heated Rivalry’s lead stars — Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams — had discussed their sexuality publicly, to which Firstman demanded they should “say it”.

“I am one of those bitches who says, ‘Then say it.’ A gay guy would say it. I don’t respect you because you care too much about your career and what’s going to happen if people think you’re gay,” Firstman said.

It wasn’t long before Firstman copped backlash from Heated Rivalry’s diehard fans, with many slamming his “crazy” critiques on social media and describing them as “annoying” and “pretentious”, among other, more *colourful*, words.

The hullabaloo got so big that it made its way to François Arnaud, who portrays hockey player Scott Hunter in Heated Rivalry and had some choice words in response to Firstman.

“Is there only one way to have ‘authentic’ gay sex on TV?” Arnaud wrote under an Instagram Post reporting on Firstman’s comments. “Should the sex that closeted hockey players have look like the sex that sceney LA gay guys have?”

The puck was then passed to Williams himself, who reshared Arnaud’s comment on his Instagram Stories but kept things cute and classy in the caption. “But truly go watch I Love LA! Jordan and the cast are great,” Williams wrote.

It all culminated earlier today with Firstman walking back his previous comments on Heated Rivalry. “I love Heated Rivalry and ultimately I’m a f***ot who can’t shut the fuck up but I’m gunna get better at that,” Firstman wrote on his Instagram Stories.

Firstman’s response comes after news that Heated Rivalry was renewed for a second season, as well as continued speculation that the series is based on a Marvel fanfic about Captain America and his sidekick Bucky Barnes.

I for one would be well and truly seated for that pair’s hypothetical romp, but I wonder whether Firstman would think it’s “not how superheroes fuck”?
