Jordan’s general prosecution charged on Wednesday detainees in the city of al-Salt with terrorism following last week’s attack in the town of Fuhais.
A homemade explosive device planted near a police van in Fuhais left a policeman dead and six others and injured. Security forces raided al-Salt on Saturday in pursuit of the perpetrators, detaining several suspects.
A source from the state security court told the Petra news agency on Wednesday that the charges include carrying out deadly terrorist acts, possessing and manufacturing explosive material for the use of illegal acts, possessing weapons and conspiring to execute terrorist attacks.
The source said that investigations were still underway with the suspects and their public trial at the state security court will begin once they are completed.
Under the 2006 Prevention of Terrorism Act, the charges are punishable by hanging.
