Jordan Banjo says son's health scare 'put things into perspective' as he shares update

Jordan Banjo's baby son is "fighting fit" a month after he was rushed to the hospital with sepsis and suspected meningitis.

The Diversity star and his wife Naomi Courts, welcomed their third child, Atreus, in April.

Naomi previously explained that their newborn baby had been immediately admitted to the hospital when he fell unwell and that it was the "most emotionally draining, frightening week" of their lives.

Meningitis is when the lining of the brain and spinal cord becomes inflamed, and it can lead to sepsis, which is when the immune system overreacts to an infection and begins to attack vital organs.

A few weeks after the terrifying ordeal, Jordan revealed little Atreus is back to "100%" and enjoying life.

"He's doing a lot better," the 30-year-old told the Mirror before revealing Atreus recently went to his first baby sensory class.

"They were just flashing lights around and playing bits of music and he was having the time of his life obviously.

"I was working. I wasn't there but you know, he's back fighting fit... 100%, doing really well and, you know, it does kind of scare you a little bit and again, put things into perspective."

"But, you know, we're just super grateful that he's he's doing okay, and just sort of enjoying the time even more now."

Last month, Naomi said it was "awful" leaving their son at the hospital and going home to be "mummy" to their two other sons Cassius, four, and three-year-old Mayowa.

The worried mum said that it had been "tough" but that they'd done their best and, after five days, they finally got a stable temperature.

Jordan has been busy juggling parenting, radio hosting as well as his incredible work with supermarket chain Tesco - which has recently introduced a £5million grant programme.

The scheme, in partnership with Groundwork UK, gives children across the UK a stronger start in life.

The grants will help schools and children’s groups provide nutritious food and healthy activities that support young people’s physical health and mental wellbeing, such as breakfast clubs or snacks, and equipment for healthy activities.

Schools and children’s groups will be able to apply via Groundwork for a grant of up to £1,500. Grants are for activities that focus on providing food to kids such as fruit for breakfast clubs or snacks to enjoy throughout the day, and for equipment for outdoor and indoor activities.

Speaking about the grant, Jordan told us: "We are in a place at the moment in the country where this is really really needed."

"...To see something like Tesco genuinely doing something positive and for good, I mean like, I'm just really happy," he said.

"I'm really proud to be involved with it to be fair."

Customers can support their local school as well as children's groups by dropping the blue token they receive at checkout in Tesco into the relevant voting box.

If you know of a school or children’s group that could benefit from a Stronger Starts grant, please visit www.tescoplc.com/strongerstarts and apply now.
