Jordan Ayew has a message for the Crystal Palace fans after being named player of the month

Jordan Ayew insists that this is "just the beginning" after netting two goals in August to be named the Crystal Palace player of the month.

The Ghanaian international has been voted for by the fans as the club's player of the month for August, after scoring goals in the wins against Manchester United and his old side Aston Villa.

He also impressed in the goalless draw against Everton on the opening weekend of the season, while his performances have earned him praise from Palace boss Roy Hodgson, along with fans and pundits alike.

And the 28-year-old, who joined Palace on a permanent deal this summer following a loan spell last season, has spoken of what it means to him to win the award, as voted for by supporters.

“First of all, I want to thank them [the fans] and everyone at the football club," Ayew said, speaking to Palace TV .

“I am grateful. It is a good thing, but this is just the beginning. This gives me more energy and more desire to work harder for this football club.

“My target was to start well, and things have been going well. Hopefully I can continue and I need to do better, and work harder."

Meanwhile, he insists that the Palace players are not getting carried away after their fine start to the new campaign, having taken seven points from their first four games to sit fourth in the Premier League.

And ahead of a fixture against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, Ayew said that Palace have got to maintain the levels they have reached in their early season performances.

“We are happy, but we all know it is just the beginning and there are a lot of games to go," he said.

“We know that there are important games coming up and we have to focus and keep working hard."
