Jonson Clarke Harris Rangers transfer news as financial fair play rules boost Ibrox signing chance

Scottish Premiership champions Rangers have received a boost in the hunt for in-demand striker Jonson Clarke Harris.

The 26-year-old is a wanted man after his 33 goals in all competitions helped fire Peterborough into the Championship.

Clarke-Harris is set to have a host of teams battling for his signature but a move to an English league side appears a long shot due to strict rules on financial fair play.

Peterborough kicked out a £5m bid from Bournemouth in January and the former Bristol Rovers striker has only added to his reputation since then.

Stoke City boss Michael O'Neill has painted a bleak picture for his team and it's a similar story for a host of teams who ply their trade outwith the riches of the Premier League.

He said: “It will be difficult for us to bring players in permanently because of Financial Fair Play.

“We know we’re not going to make massive changes to the squad because we’ll be somewhat hindered by that but we will hopefully add key players in the right areas to hopefully help us.

“We have to streamline the squad first of all to give us the best chance of getting the best players in to help us improve.”

It comes days after Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony tweeted he sees no reason Clarke-Harris could remain at London Road due to his lengthy contract that runs to 2024.

Rangers have Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten under contract and could also strike a deal for free agent Jermain Defoe.

But Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson have made it abundantly clear that they are looking to bolster their squad ahead of a tilt at the Champions League.
