Jonson Clarke-Harris hands Bristol Rovers a huge boost as he discusses his future

Bristol Rovers star striker Jonson Clarke-Harris says he has "unfinished business in League One."

After his goalscoring exploits this season, which saw him named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month having scored eight goals, the forward immediately attracted the attention of Championship scouts with Hull City, Preston North End and Reading all reportedly interested in landing him.

Clarke-Harris, 24, only joined Rovers in January, signing late on transfer deadline day from Coventry City.

Since then he has scored a dozen goals for the Gas, got his first senior hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Blackpool to finish with17 goals for the season, his most prolific in senior football after making his debut for the Sky Blues at 16 years-old and 21 days.

Speaking to Sky Sports , Clarke-Harris admitted he has his sights set on the Championship, but not just yet.

He said: "You try and play as high as you can for as long as you can.

"I do feel like I'm good enough for the Championship but I probably have unfinished business in League One."

Despite still being just 24, because Clarke-Harris started his senior career so young, setting the record for Coventry City's youngest debut, the striker has already had a storied career, playing for nine different clubs and suffering a serious ACL injury in 2016.

In the same interview, Clarke-Harris said he has taken inspiration from his his former Coventry team-mate Callum Wilson who recovered from a similar injury to return to action for Premier League Bournemouth.

Clarke-Harris said: "After the ACL injuries he's had just look at him now

"Even when I was a youth player I used to look up to Callum. He's one of the top strikers in the Premier League and a role model I will always look up to."

Could Clarke-Harris be the next Rovers player to make it to the Premier League, following in the footsteps of Rickie Lambert? Only time will tell.
