Jonny Hayes and Ryan Hedges face injury sweat ahead of Aberdeen’s Europa Conference League showdown

Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass faces an injury headache ahead of his sides Europa Conference League Playoff match against Qarabag.

Both Jonny Hayes and Ryan Hedges hobbled off with just nine men near the end of the Premier Sports Cup shock 2-1 defeat to Raith Rovers at Stark's Park.

It could prove to be costly for Aberdeen as they could go into their biggest continental match in a years without two of their key contributors.

Speaking to Premier Sports after the match Glass spoke about his worry regarding the injuries ahead of the crucial double header approaching his side.

He said: "Jonny either got hit or caught his leg as he shot and Ryan clearly has a hamstring issue, hopefully it is not serious but it does not look great when they come off the pitch and you have to play with nine men.

"The lesson from today is when you are on top you have to control the game and see it out. But I think the biggest importance is the reaction of the group, if we don’t react we will go to Baku and get turned over there as well.

"But I think the group so far has shown a good resilience and good fight and a lot of quality as well.”

Aberdeen have already defeated Swedish side Hacken and Icelandic side Breidablik to make it to this stage of the competition.

They now face the side from Azerbaijan to make it to the group stages of the Conference League.

Glass is adamant that his side must show better performances in that match than what they did in their last 16 match against Raith Rovers, he added: "From total control first half they went direct in the second half and we couldn’t handle it.

"I think any diversity that came with the quick goal, we didn’t show any kind of reaction to it that we would expect, but it is a massive disappointment.

"We didn’t make too many clear cut chances to be honest. In forward areas we didn’t cut them open to many times. We had a lot of possession, got into forward areas but the quality in the final third wasn’t there.

"It is a disappointment, there is no hiding from it. I think second half Jonny puts a couple of good deliveries in but there were not enough bodies in the box.

"I think in the main in the second half the reaction to the adversity was not good enough.

"I don’t know if it is a reality check but it shows what can happen in a game when you don’t look after your business. I think in the first half we were in control and did not do enough to put the game to bed.

"Second half they come out it was a little bit different, but we allowed them to get the crowd going and as a group we didn’t react well enough to it."
