Jonny Evans on brink of fresh contract as Leicester plan future at new £100m HQ

Jonny Evans is on the brink of penning a new deal as Leicester plan for the future at their new £100million training ground.

Northern Ireland defender and former Manchester United trainee Evans, 32, is out of contract next summer.

But the Foxes are close to keeping him on fresh terms after his consistent displays since joining from West Brom in June 2018 for a bargain £3.5million.

City boss Brendan Rodgers said: "I'm hearing from the club it's pretty close.

"So we're very hopeful that, very soon, we'll be able to finalise that deal.

“If it's this year, that's great, if not, it'll be very early in the New Year."

Leicester's squad will on Wednesday visit their superb new training ground for the first time ahead of training there Christmas Eve for Saturday's visit by Manchester United.

The facility at Seagrave in north Leicestershire has been under construction for two years and was a key factor in Rodgers joining from Celtic in February last year.

The 185-acre complex includes 12 full-sized pitches, accommodation and a nine-hole golf course.

Plus elite sports science and medical facilities including a customised gym , hydrotherapy suite , altitude chambers and cryotherapy.

Rodgers, whose side are second in the Premier League, added: “We are moving into an elite venue which will be a great.

“It really underlines the owners' commitment to developing and improving players and people.

“In terms of recruitment of players it will really help too.

“We will always be in the market for a certain level of players.

“We don't have the £60m-£70m to spend on one player but we'll be able to bring in players who see the facility they can work in everyday.

“The recovery of players will also be helped by the facilities which are elite standard for sports science and medical.

“Recovery is such an important aspect of modern football so it will be of huge benefit.”

Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, whose family bought the club ten years ago, said: “Of all the investments we have made in the club, this has been our most significant.

“It elevates the club’s offering to its players and staff to an entirely new level and is a key component in making our progress of recent years sustainable.”

The primary hub of the site is the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Building after the club’s late chairman.

Leicester's women's team will move into the training ground at Belvoir Drive, the Foxes' HQ for the last 59 years.
