Jonny Evans in glowing praise for Northern Ireland youngster following display in Estonia

Jonny Evans believes Norwich City left back Jamal Lewis oozed Premier League class in Northern Ireland ’s vital Euro 2020 win over Estonia in Tallinn.

Lewis, who made his senior club debut only 18 months ago, helped the Canaries secure promotion to the top flight by winning the Championship title last season.

And Leicester City defender Evans believes the jet-heeled defender has all the attributes, physically and mentally, to shine in the big league next season.

“Lewis has been fantastic and it’s wonderful to see how much he is improving,” he said

“He’s a really, really ambitious lad and a lot of players respond to that because you can tell he’s got talent.

“He’s got great physical attributes and he can really carry us up the pitch with his pace and athleticism, but more importantly, he’s hungry and ambitious to get better.”

Evans believes Lewis, who impressed at both ends of the pitch in Estonia, will only get better when he pits his wits against Premier League wingers next season.

The 21-year-old, who was a talented middle distance runner as a kid, was named in both the PFA and EFL Championship teams of the season.

“Now that’s him in the Premier League he’ll be there for the rest of his career,” he said.

“He’s a really, really good defender, one against one especially, and he’s adding an attacking side to him game as well.

“You see at Norwich, he plays very high for them and takes up really high attacking positions and I’m sure he’ll improve even more.”
