Jonny Clayton wins all-Welsh World Grand Prix Darts Final with stunning victory over Gerwyn Price

Jonny Clayton came out on top in an all-Welsh final of the World Grand Prix - beating world champion Gerwyn Price in a dominant display.

Clayton secured his first televised ranking title - moving him up into the world's top 10 - with an emphatic 5-1 victory over 2020 World Cup-winning team-mate Price in the Morningside Arena, Leicester.

World number one Price started menacingly with a 160 check-out to win the opening leg, but Clayton roared back to take the set.

Clayton, averaging 94 in the final, took the next two sets as well.

Price hinted at a recovery by making it 3-1, but Clayton came back again and a 116 checkout sealed the title.

Price had come into the final nursing an elbow injury which had hindered him in his semi-final victory over Stephen Bunting as he sought to become just the third man - after Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen - to defend the coveted title.

But the world No. 1 ultimately had no answers for the man who attributes his meteoric rise to his World Cup triumph alongside Price last November.

Even when Price averaged over 115 in the third set, Clayton found a way to come out on top - proving he was well-worth the £100,000 winner's prize.

Clayton's win puts him into the world's top 10 for the first time - moving him to seventh from 14th.

It's fine reward for 'The Ferret', who has established himself as one of the premier players in world darts by virtue of winning the Masters and Premier League this year.

However, as both those tournaments were unranked, it's only now after his World Grand Prix victory will his exploits be truly reflected by his current status.
