Jonny Bairstow backing Jofra Archer to continue England hot streak against Sri Lanka at Headingley

Jonny Bairstow is backing England speed merchant Jofra Archer to continue his hot streak against Sri Lanka at Headingley on Friday.

Archer has burst on to the international scene and taken the World Cup by storm - taking 12 wickets in five matches so far at an average of just 18.08.

He is taking a wicket every 22.4 deliveries and going at an impressive economy rate of under five runs per over.

“Jofra obviously has great skills and great attributes as a fast bowler," Bairstow said. "To have the skills to be able to bowl a yorker, a bouncer, a slower ball and hit a length - they’re great attributes that everybody wants to have.

“Hopefully he can keep contributing and taking wickets to put us in winning positions."

Bairstow has many great memories of playing at Headingley having come through the ranks and played all his county cricket for Yorkshire.

Having played one-day internationals and Test matches on his home ground, he is now looking forward to featuring in a World Cup match in front of the famous Western Terrace.

“Playing in a World Cup at Headingley is going to be something special," he added. "Something I will never forget.

“It depends on the overhead conditions, but generally it is a good wicket so it is about us doing our best things on the day."
