Jonjoe Kenny plays down Celtic future question as Everton loanee outlines contract situation

Jonjoe Kenny remained coy on the prospect of extending his stay at Celtic when probed ahead of Saturday's match at home to Livingston.

The on-loan Everton man joined up on deadline day in the winter window shortly after Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed left the club.

Kenny has a year left to run on his deal at the Toffees but he's not looking that far ahead just yet.

He said: "Nothing's being said right now, there's a lot of games to go and there are cups to play in.

"Me, personally, I just want to keep going day by day. I know that's a boring answer.

"I just want to keep looking forward and perform to the best of my ability to help the team.

"It's a massive club and a lot of people would want to be in my position, I'm lucky to be here.

"I have another year left. I've got time left, I've got next season."

Kenny's first weeks at Parkhead were a whirlwind introduction into life in Glasgow, joining at a time when the heat was on and the title race looked to be already over.

He openly wondered what all the fuss was about after notching five straight wins upon his arrival from Merseyside.

But then in the same month a shock defeat to bottom of the league Ross County spelled the end for manager Neil Lennon and the Irishman left the club at the end of February.

Kenny reserved special praise for interim boss John Kennedy, who has battled to steady the ship and as the wait continues for the next permanent manager's arrival appears more likely to be handed the reins for the rest of the season.

"I’ve loved every minute working with Kendo," Kenny said.

"Neil Lennon brought me in and working with him and Kendo has been brilliant. We have a good relationship and I’ve loved every moment of it.

"I’ve loved every minute of my time here. It’s been brilliant for me to come here and play for a massive club like Celtic.

"Unfortunately, the fans haven’t been there and they’re a massive part of this club, but I’ve still loved every minute of it."

Kenny will play in his second derby against Rangers a week on Saturday after the Scottish Cup draw pitted Glasgow's big two against each other in the fourth round.

He added: "This is an opportunity I want to take big advantage of.

"I want to win things as a player. I know a lot of players here have won a lot of trophies and I want to start doing that. There’s nothing better as a player than going on and winning trophies."
