Jonjoe Kenny pinpoints the Celtic derby key as Everton loanee makes Liverpool clash comparison

Celtic defender Jonjoe Kenny believes it will be important to take the emotion out of the derby day clash with Rangers.

Kenny will face off against Steven Gerrard' s side for the first time since his January loan switch from Everton as the newly-crowned champions arrive at Parkhead.

Despite is being the first time he has faced off against Celtic' s bitter rivals, Kenny is confident heading into the clash having previously experienced the Merseyside derby.

The wing-back reckons that focussing on the football over the occasion will be vital in Glasgow's east end.

He told the Celtic View podcast: "Everyone knows, all the players know, what it’s about and the build up to it.

"You try not to get too emotional and try to be as calm-headed as possible, which is difficult to do knowing how big the game is and what it means to the people of Glasgow.

"In Liverpool as well, it was massive for me growing up, but it’s about being as calm as possible and enjoying the moment, but I don’t think you have to think about the game too much leading up to it.

“It will be hard because it’s all out there and well documented, but you’ve got to take it day by day and enjoy the occasion."

With the Scottish Cup the only piece of silverware left for John Kennedy 's men to claim this term, Kenny hopes to build momentum for the final run in.

When asked about the end of season targets, he said: “Winning, and winning as many games as possible. That’s what this club is about. Winning football matches.

“You just have take it game by game.”
