Jonjo Shelvey offered music megastar £50,000 to sing at his wedding and was turned down

Jonjo Shelvey has gone on the record to reveal that he offered a world renowned musician £50,000 to sing one song at his wedding but was turned down.

MIdfielder Jonjo made a rather emotional Newcastle United exit earlier this year, bringing his children onto the pitch to bid a final farewell to Magpies fans, after his switch to Nottingham Forest was confirmed. The 31-year-old spent seven years on Tyneside before his switch to Forest, living in the area with his family, including wife Daisy, who he tied the knot with in 2015.

And he has now claimed that he had hoped to land All of Me and Ordinary People singer John Legend for a star turn at their nuptials, but was turned down by the star, despite offering him a four figure sum.

Revealing what happened, Jonjo told Sky Sports: "I tried to get John Legend to sing my wedding song,I offered him like 50 grand to sing one song, and he just turned it down.

"And I'm thinking 'come on mate'. 50 grand as well, to sing one song!"

While John snubbed the chance to perform at the Shelvey wedding, another big name entertained on the big day, with comedian Jimmy Carr leaving guests in hysterics.

Jonjo's wife Daisy could also have got up and sang a tune or too, as back in 2022, she was a regular near the top of the charts as a member of S Club Juniors. The spin-off group of S Club 7 had three number 2 hits in a row with One Step Closer, Automatic High and New Direction, before rebranding as S Club 8 and returning to the top 10 with Fool No More and Sundown.
