Jonjo Shelvey admits he is contemplating life after Newcastle United - despite sparkling display at Fulham

Jonjo Shelvey has revealed he needed to impress in Newcastle United's final day win over Fulham to keep himself in the spotlight.

The midfielder sprinted over to the away end to celebrate his wonder goal in the first half during the emphatic victory.

Shelvey said after the game:  "I needed to put in a performance to get people talking back about me either at Newcastle – or away from Newcastle.

"At least I've finished with a good performance and a goal.

"I'll enjoy the summer and see what the summer brings now.

"To be fair, I'm glad to see the back of this season."

And reflecting on his superb goal, Shelvey said: "I got caught in two minds.

"The touch sort of got away from me, and I saw the defender coming, and quickly got my shot off, and it swerved underneath the bar.

"I thought it was a great team performance and we thoroughly deserved the three points."

Shelvey's goal was his first of the season and his first strike since the 2-1 win at Leicester City 13 months ago.

The 27-year-old has two years left on his current contract.
