Bappi Lahiri, who passed away at a Mumbai hospital, has touched millions of hearts with his soulful music and loveable nature. As celebrities and fans flood social media with his memories, ETimes got in touch with Jonita Gandhi who has had the opportunity of working with the iconic singer-composer.
She said, “I feel really lucky that I got the opportunity to work with Bappi Da. His reign over the disco era in Bollywood will never be forgotten. He’s an icon. He was so loveable and such a sweet person. I’ve only interacted with him a couple of times but each time I felt he was extremely warm. I have sung his last released song, 'Bhankas' from 'Baaghi 3' and that feeling is surreal.”
Elaborating further, Jonita added, “I recorded a song for him right before the pandemic started in March 2020. That’s the first time I went to his studio. I remember being overwhelmed by just seeing all of his accolades and all of the people he has worked with. Just the sight of how many awards he’s won was overwhelming in itself. That was the only song I ever recorded that he composed and remains yet unreleased, but it’s a memory and opportunity I will cherish forever.”
Celebrities, friends and family members have been arriving at the Lahiri residence to pay their last tribute to the legendary musician. The funeral will take place tomorrow after his son Bappa Lahiri arrives from the US.
From the recent lot, Bappi Lahiri has songs like, ‘Ooh La La’ from ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Tune Maari Entriyaan’ from ‘Gunday’, ‘Tamma Tamma’ from ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, and ‘Areey Pyar Kar Le’ from ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ to his credit.
