Jonathan Woodgate is already looking to scupper Leeds United's Ryan Kent loan - reports

Middlesbrough have entered the race to sign in-demand Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, according to Goal.

Leeds United are reported to have expressed an interest in Kent, who spent last season on loan with Rangers.

The 22-year-old caught the eye under Steven Gerrard’s stewardship, but has returned to Anfield with his future up in the air.

Some outlets have suggested Kent is looking to nail down a permanent home, with the Reds setting a £12m price tag for his services.

Given Dan James’s recent move for £18m, another former Whites target, Liverpool believe this is a reasonable figure for someone of Kent’s experience, within the second tier.

Others believe he could be set to move out on loan again, with a host of Championship clubs, as well as Aston Villa, clambering to sign him.

LeedsLive understands Kent is open to a move to Elland Road, but Kent's representatives were waiting for a decision from Liverpool on the next move.

However, it appears Middlesbrough are now in the running for his signature.

The club are looking to bring in some fresh blood to Riverside Stadium, having announced Jonathan Woodgate as their new head coach yesterday.

The former Whites defender has a long-standing relationship with Liverpool’s recruitment team, including sporting director Michael Edwards, which could tip the balance in their favour.

Having outlined his intent for a much more ‘attacking’ style of football, Woodgate sees the wide man as the perfect addition to kick-start his reign at the club.

Kent almost joined Teessiders back in 2017, before opting for a loan move to Freiburg in Germany.

The winger is much travelled, after spells with Coventry City, Barnsley and Bristol City, as well as Freiburg and Rangers.

He scored six goals last season in 43 appearances, claiming Scotland’s Young Player of the Year in the process.
