Jonathan Toews using Twitter to connect with fans, promote charitable causes

Feb. 25--On Sunday, a shock wave was sent through the social media universe when Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews finally joined Twitter.

Toews did not talk about his foray into the Twittersphere after Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Wild. But he did Wednesday.

When asked if he was enjoying his time on Twitter, Toews said: "Maybe a little too much."

Toews said his primary motivation for signing up was to draw attention to causes he is interested in and giving fans a greater glimpse into his personal life.

"It's nice to establish that connection with fans and people who are interested in knowing your life, your interests and everything you're trying to do off the ice," Toews said. "Going forward I'm excited to see what develops in that area."

Toews tweeted a picture from Duncan Keith's charity event Monday night. On Sunday, he engaged in a playful exchange with winger Andrew Shaw, whom Toews jokingly called a "little puke."

"Yeah, we wanted to have a little bit of fun with it there, generate a little bit of attention off the hop," Toews said. "Fans love to see that."

Toews has been known throughout his career as "Captain Serious." Perhaps Twitter can help burst that bubble -- or reinforce it.

"I've always been known as a Captain Serious type of guy. I guess I'm not shaking that any time soon," Toews said. "I'll try to embrace it and go with it, whether I like it or not."

Bottom six shakeup: Coach Joel Quenneville altered his lines at Wednesday's practice. Quenneville moved Teuvo Teravainen from right wing to center on a line with Dennis Rasmussen at left wing and Andrew Desjardins at right wing. The fourth line had Phillip Danault at center with Brandon Mashinter at left wing and Jiri Sekac at right wing. Quenneville said he made the move to give Teravainen another look at center and see how that line might play together.

Kruger recovering: The Hawks maintain that center Marcus Kruger will be out for the rest of the regular season because of a dislocated wrist.

Quenneville said Kruger would be welcomed back by the team earlier than that if he can recover. But Quenneville still said Kruger is far away from returning to playing shape.

"If he could be ready before (the playoffs), that'd be fine," Quenneville said.

Quenneville also ruled out winger Marian Hossa (leg) for Thursday's game against the Predators and Sunday's game against the Capitals.
