Jonathan Stewart signs 1-day deal, retires with Panthers

Former Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is done with football. The team announced today that he’s signed a one-day deal so that he can retire as part of the franchise that picked him in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft.

Stewart played 10 years in a Carolina uniform, totaling 7,318 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns on 1,699 carries. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and won two Player of the Week awards.

In seven playoff games, he had 101 carries for 474 yards and five touchdowns.

Last season, Stewart signed with the Giants but he saw very little playing time behind No. 2 overall pick Saquon Barkley. He finished the year with just 17 yards on six carries.
