Jonathan Rea compares World Superbike track to North West 200

Jonathan Rea has compared Phillip Island's World Superbike track to the North West 200.

Rea is preparing for the opening round of the 2020 championship this weekend in New Zealand.

The Kawasaki rider has won the last five WSBK titles and is gunning for win number six this year.

And he is a big fan of Phillip Island.

"It is such a unique track. We don't race anywhere else in the world like here," Rea told the BBC.

"We've got fourth and fifth gear corners, we've got first gear chicanes, slow changes of direction, fast changes of direction.

"It's on an island and it's almost like the North West 200, because you get that wind coming in off the sea, and that changes from day to day.

"One day you can have a head wind pushing you on the straight, the next day it is on your back.

"So you need to pay to attention to that.

"But it is a great track. It is hard to get the perfect lap around here. You are always searching for the perfect lap."

Rea admits he is in "a good place" as he prepares to begin his pursuit of a sixth straight World Superbikes crown.

"I think after five championships, there is an element of ticking all the boxes I wanted to tick," he added.

"So everything is a bonus. Maturity with the bike and the team, everything is in the right place.

"So I feel happy and in a good place, on the track and away from the track."
