Well folks, it seems the rumours were true: Jonathan LaPaglia will officially exit his role as Australian Survivor host following this year’s upcoming season, Australia v The World.

We heard rumblings of this news on Sunday, but Channel 10, the network that is home to the series, officially confirmed LaPaglia’s departure in a social media post shared today.

“We can confirm that the upcoming season of Survivor: Australia v The World will be the last series hosted by the formidable Jonathan La Paglia,” the post read alongside an image of the presenter, who has fronted the show since 2016.

While the reason behind his apparent axing was not revealed, Channel 10 did thank LaPaglia for his work on the show and reflected on his legacy.

“JLP has brought a unique blend of authority, intelligence and empathy to his role as host of Australian Survivor over the last 10 years,” the message continued, before describing JLP as a “referee” who managed “the intense pressure of the game while also acknowledging the human drama unfolding”.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to JLP for his outstanding contribution over 10 years on Survivor. We wish him continued success in his acting and presenting career.”

For those doing the maths, it means LaPaglia will appear on the most imminent installment of Survivor set to premiere sometime this year, but won’t return for future seasons slated for 2026 and beyond.

While a release date for Survivor v The World has not yet been revealed, we do know it will be overseen by JLP and include a cast of familiar favourites like former winners David Genat and George Mladenov, who’ll be pitted against international contestants.

Speaking of Genat, the same report that predicted JLP’s exit also tipped the All Stars winner as his replacement, however Channel 10 stopped short of revealing who will take on hosting duties in JLP’s wake.

In the meantime, we can at least rest assured that JLP will bless our TV screens with one last trip to the Survivor v The World island later this year.
