Jonathan King among three men arrested over sex abuse allegations

The former pop mogul Jonathan King is among three men arrested by as part of a new investigation into allegations of sex abuse at a teenage disco in the 1970s and 80s.

All three were arrested on suspicion of sexual offences involving boys under the age of 16. They are King, 70, from Bayswater in west London, a 77-year-old and an 86-year-old from Walton-on-Thames.

The inquiry, Operation Ravine, is following up new allegations of sexual offences connected with the Walton Hop youth club in Walton-on-Thames.

Searches were carried out at homes in London and Surrey, and the three men were taken to police stations in Surrey for questioning.

DCI Karen Mizzi said: “This is a complex investigation into numerous allegations of sexual abuse and assault dating back over several decades.

“Our investigation focuses on the Walton Hop disco, a popular event for youngsters between the 1970s and 1980s and we are following a number of lines of inquiry.

“However if anyone has information that may help the investigation I would ask them to contact us.”

King is a veteran of the UK music industry, known for a string of 1970s “bubblegum” pop hits, including Loop di Love by Shag. He discovered or produced albums for bands and acts including Genesis, Peter Gabriel, The Bay City Rollers and 10cc.
