Jonathan Davies in line for his first game in 10 months but fellow Wales stars still missing

Wales and Lions centre Jonathan Davies is in the frame to play his first game of rugby since the World Cup this weekend.

He’s in contention for the Scarlets’ European Challenge Cup clash away to Toulon on Saturday, having been sidelined for the past 10 months following knee surgery.

But fellow Welsh internationals Liam Williams, Rhys Patchell and Rob Evans will sit out the trip to France.

Back three man Williams, who is yet to appear for the Scarlets since rejoining from Saracens, has a foot problem, while fly-half Patchell’s issue is with his calf and prop Evans is recovering from a neck injury.

The 81-cap Davies’ last game was the World Cup third-place play-off against New Zealand in Tokyo on November 1 last year.

It’s been a long road back for the 32-year-old after an operation on ligament damage to his left knee, but now he’s within sight of a return.

He has been looking in great shape in training and Scarlets coach Glenn Delaney confirmed he was the closest of the long-term injured to making a comeback this weekend.

One Wales star who will definitely be available is scrum-half Gareth Davies, who has recovered from the painful blow he sustained in the first game back against Cardiff Blues last month.

“I had a bang on my bum,” said the No 9, who recently turned 30.

“Olly Robinson tackled me with his head basically.

“I spoke to him after the game and he thought he had swallowed his tongue his head had hit me that hard, so it was quite a collision.

“I basically had a dead bum, so it’s a bit frustrating.

“It took a week or so to get it back firing, but it’s good to go.

“There’s been plenty of banter from the boys about it.”

The 53-cap scrum-half says he is looking forward to having Jonathan ‘Fox’ Davies back in action alongside him.

“Foxy is one of the best centres in world rugby, we all know that,” he said.

“He has been working really hard to get back fit and he’s in good shape.

“Hopefully we will see him on the pitch this weekend.”

The Dragons' Wales squad contenders - Nick Tompkins, Ross Moriarty, Aaron Wainwright, Leon Brown, Elliot Dee, Jonah Holmes, Sam Davies, Taine Basham and Ashton Hewitt - are all fit and available for Friday's Challenge Cup quarter-final against Bristol at Ashton Gate, with Holmes in line to make his debut for the region along with Jamie Roberts.
