Jonathan David outlines Premier League ambitions as Arsenal track star prospect

Arsenal target Jonathan David has admitted that it's his goal to play in the Premier League one day.

The 20-year-old has impressed this season having netted 18 goals and making seven assists in the Belgian Pro League to help his side reach second place. He has also scored five goals in the Europa League this season.

football.london understand that Arsenal's scouting network have been aware of his abilities for a while but they are not the only club interested in the Canadian. Alongside his production in the final third, his contributions out of possession have impressed as he stands fifth in the Europa League standings for attempted pressing duels.

Despite all the attention he has received as a result, David has insisted he is trying to concentrate on his game but also that the Premier League is where he wants to be.

The latest on possible Arsene Wenger statue and stand

“I don’t really focus on that or think much about it," he told The Guardian.

"Right now I’m playing almost every minute of every game and that has really helped me get to the level that I need to be. I just need to take a good step where I can make sure I am getting enough time on the pitch to keep developing. I don’t want to go somewhere and just stay on the bench so it’s about taking the right step.

“I want to become one of the best strikers in the world. That’s my goal. The Premier League is the best in the world and most competitive so obviously that is somewhere I would love to play in the future.”

With Arsenal proven to move shrewdly in the transfer market for young gems - Gabriel Martinelli's capture the most recent example - this could help their case when it comes to looking to prise David away from Gent.

Not only has Martinelli emerged as a star for the future since arriving at the Emirates but in his debut season, he has become a key member of the Gunners first team.

With Bukayo Saka - also just 18-years-old - having a similar rise to the first team, albeit through the academy, there is proof that Arsenal are currently a club that will give youth a chance.

This being a factor that could persuade David that a move to north London - where he could potentially force his way into the first team - would be smarter than sitting on the bench at one of Europe's powerhouses.
