Jonathan David drops hint over future Arsenal transfer amid Edu's interest

Arsenal will be finalising their preparations for the January transfer window, which is now just a few days away.

The Gunners could be in the market for a new centre-forward considering they have up to three frontmen who could depart the Emirates Stadium in the coming months.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been exiled from Mikel Arteta's matchday squad after being relieved of his captaincy duties whilst both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are into the final seven months of their contracts at the club, with neither player appearing likely to renew their deals at this moment in time.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers in recent times, with the Evening Standard reporting earlier this month that the north Londoners are interested in both Jonathan David of Lille and Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The report claims that scouts have watched David on numerous occasions this term and technical director Edu is keen to sign a centre-forward in 2022 to help bolster Arteta's side.

Now, a number of Gunners supporters spotted the Canadian international donning a Thierry Henry jumper in a recent picture, sparking a wave of excitement from fans on social media.

David himself has previously made it no secret of his admiration for the French icon, admitting that he frequently watched Arsenal when Arsene Wenger was in the managerial hot seat.

"European clubs made me dream," he told L’Equipe earlier this year. "I watched Barca a lot, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.

"I might not have been ready in my head. But that was the only option, my goal from the start. I knew I had to make sacrifices.

"That’s when I met Nick Mavromaras, my agent, who had the contacts."

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an extremely productive 2021/22 campaign so far, netting a whopping 16 goals across all competitions, including 12 in Ligue 1 - more than any other player in the French top-flight.
