Jonathan Allen will be at the heart of any Redskins success

The Washington Redskins are ripe with young and exciting talent, and most people would agree that if they’re able to stay out of their own way in the future, there should be some success down the road.

When looking at the young pieces in Washington and envisioning how they might contribute, it may be important to realize that one of the most important players has already been with the Redskins for a couple of years.

Jonathan Allen is not the face of the defense, but he is the heart and soul — wherever he goes, the team will follow.

Working alongside standout defensive lineman Daron Payne, the two have turned Washington’s front-seven into a wrecking ball that devours opposing running backs and quarterbacks. After an injury in his rookie season limited Allen to just five games, a monstrous second year put him on a map in the NFL landscape. Eight sacks, 15 QB hits, 61 tackles and 11 tackles for loss — it’s guaranteed at this point that Allen is being mentioned in film sessions across the league.

With the addition of Montez Sweat alongside both Allen and Payne, the Redskins should be able to terrorize offensive lines for years to come, starting in the 2019 season. If Washington is to find any success in the future, Allen will be at the heart of it.
