Jonathan Allen says he is ‘fine’ ahead of Week 2

Washington Commanders’ fans panicked Sunday when star defensive tackle Jonathan Allen was slow to get up after one play in the second half. On Monday, head coach Ron Rivera said Allen was one of three players who would receive an MRI, along with Phidarian Mathis and Wes Schweitzer.

When asked about Allen’s injury, Rivera said it was a groin issue.

Anytime you hear the word “MRI,” there is concern. However, reporters spoke to Allen Monday, and he assured everyone he is fine and that the MRI on his groin was more of a precaution than anything, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

Players always downplay injuries, and a groin injury can linger for weeks, even months. We all remember Curtis Samuel’s situation from 2021. However, Allen nor Rivera appeared concerned, and the head coach would be in panic mode if Allen was seriously hurt.

Don’t be surprised if Allen is on the injury report this week, but it would be a shock if he didn’t suit up in Detroit for Week 2.
