Jonathan Allen intends to try a unique-looking new helmet this year

That Jonathan Allen helmet in the above Instagram post from the Washington Redskins star himself is pretty great, most fans would likely agree.

Unlike say, Antonio Brown in Oakland, there isn’t any helmet controversy here — Allen wants to rock a new look.

Here’s NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay chronicling the epic development:

While walking out of the locker room following practice, Allen explained that he was recently watching NFL Network and felt inspired to try it out after seeing throwback footage on his TV. When asked if he plans on actually bringing it on the field with him for regular season action, he answered: “I’m planning on it.”

Fittingly enough, Allen is a bit of a throwback player himself, both in his mannerisms and how he performs in the trenches.

The only drama here? It sounds like Daron Payne isn’t a fan of the look.

That probably won’t stop these two from forming the NFL’s most dominant tag team inside for the Redskins next year. The unique look, if he does it, will at least let quarterbacks have an easier time figuring out who sacked them.
