Jonathan Afolabi injury blow as Celtic striker to miss Ireland double header

Celtic forward Jonathan Afolabi has suffered an injury on international duty with Ireland.

The youngster has a tight hamstring and will miss his country's Euro U21 qualifiers against Italy and Iceland as a result.

Afolabi confirmed the news on his Instagram: "Gutted to be missing these games through injury, but big one tomorrow for the boys v Italy."

Celtic signed the highly-rated 19-year-old from Southampton on a three-year deal in the summer.

He has yet to make his senior bow, but has been impressing for the reserves and looks to be an exciting prospect for the future.

Afolabi scored his first goal for the club last month in a 4-2 win over Morton and it was one to remember.

There was some nice link up play with youngster Armstrong Oko-Flex , before Afolabi held off the defender and pulled off a cheeky back-heel to make it 1-1.

It's yet to be confirmed how long Afolabi will be on the sidelines for and he will likely be assessed when he returns to Celtic.
