Jon Walters blasts Stephen Kenny after Ireland draw against Serbia

Jon Walters can't see the progress made under Stephen Kenny after Ireland's draw against Serbia last night.

The Boys in Green went into the Aviva Stadium clash as underdogs, and despite conceding a first-half goal, battled back and found a goal late on to take a point from the World Cup qualifier.

As Kenny's men look out of contention to qualify, the boss this week admitted that his current aim is to build a team for Euro 2024 qualification.

And as a host of young players continue to cut their teeth at international level, former Ireland stalwart Walters has blasted Kenny's project as he claimed Ireland's primary focus should be to qualify for every major tournament.

Fellow ex-Ireland star Clinton Morrisson also agreed with Walters, adding that the results during Kenny's reign have 'not been good enough'.

“Everyone in the country wants to see Ireland qualify. I’m still not seeing it. I’m getting told we’re doing this, we’re doing that, I’m not seeing it," Walters said on Sky Sports punditry duty after the game.

Morrisson followed up: “I’m gonna make it plain and simple here.

“You know how we’re a threat from set pieces? Everyone knows that, so why change it?

“Get the ball up front, cause problems, get it out wide to the wide men and get balls into the box.

“I understand he (Kenny) is trying to change but you’re judged on results and results have not been good enough.”
