Amy Schumer, Denis Leary and Louis CK will be the final three guests during Jon Stewart’s tenure at the Daily Show, with the three comedians rounding off the long list of guests the satirist has had on his show in its 16-year run.
Stewart’s final show is on 6 August – the same night as the first televised Republican presidential debate – and no details of what’s in store have been divulged. But the lead-up dates will feature Stewart favourites Leary and Louis CK, plus Schumer – who was once tipped as a possible replacement for Stewart.
Speaking about his final week on the show, Stewart said: “We’re going to have a ball, and I can’t wait to show my appreciation at all the support and enthusiasm that you guys have given the show all these years.”
The final episode will be 50 minutes long, with speculation that it could feature appearances from Stephen Colbert – who once worked on the show and is due to take over David Letterman’s slot on CBS in September. Comedy Central is also airing a day-long Daily Show marathon on Sunday.
After he announced he was leaving the show in April, Stewart told the Guardian about his reasons for leaving: “Honestly, it was a combination of the limitations of my brain and a format that is geared towards following an increasingly redundant process, which is our political process.
“I was just thinking, ‘Are there other ways to skin this cat?’ And, beyond that, it would be nice to be home when my little elves get home from school, occasionally.”
Stewart will be succeeded by the South African comic Trevor Noah, who has been part of the show since December 2014, and will take over on 28 September.
