Jon Stead pays emotional tribute to former team-mate Jordan Sinnott after play-off final win over Notts County

Jon Stead paid an emotional tribute to his friend Jordan Sinnott after Harrogate Town’s 3-1 National League play-off final win over Notts County at Wembley Stadium.

Stead, who came off the bench in the second half against his former club, was close friends with the former Huddersfield Town player, who died in January following an assault in Retford.

Ex-Magpies striker Stead arranged for a cardboard cut-out of Sinnott to be in the stands at Wetherby Road for Town’s semi-final victory over Boreham Wood, and he was there again under the Wembley arch.

“The cut-out will be coming down on the bus and I’ll put him on a seat in the stadium myself. It will be nice to feel him with me,” said Stead in the build-up to the final.

“He’d have been there in normal circumstances cheering me on.”

After collecting his winners medal on what proved to be an historic afternoon for Harrogate, Stead sat with his former team-mate behind the goal, to take in what was a special moment for the striker.
