Jon Stead joins Notts County's National League rivals Harrogate Town

Notts County's National League rivals Harrogate Town have announced the signing of former Meadow Lane favourite Jon Stead.

The 36-year-old was released by the Magpies this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

Stead spent four seasons in Nottingham after joining from Huddersfield Town in 2015, scoring 42 league goals along the way.

“Coming away from Notts County I knew I needed a change and something fresh," he told Harrogate's website.

“I wanted to get things sorted out as soon as possible and make sure I knew where I was playing my football next season, I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to getting going.

“The things that have been going on at this club over the last two or three years are fantastic, they’re moving in the right direction and I want to be a part of that, help improve it and move us on to that next step.”

Stead is Harrogate's fifth summer signing in what looks likely to prove a busy window for the Yorkshire club who, under the management of ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender Simon Weaver, are targeting promotion to the Football League.

The transfer is subject to FA and National League approval and will be completed after his Notts contract has ended on July 1.
