As has become the standard whenever Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson speaks, he was asked about the latest on the pursuit of free-agent pass-rusher, Jadeveon Clowney.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing new to report, as Robinson made it clear there hasn’t been any conversations with Clowney of late, but he did say there was definitely mutual interest when the two sides spoke last, per Erik Bacharach of the Tennessean.
“No conversations of recent,” Robinson said. “I think we’re going to continue to monitor it.”
However, Robinson says there was mutual interest when talks began.
“There was some mutual interest there when we started the discussions, but I would say that it really hasn’t grown any legs since we spoke last.”
Robinson noted that he did see Taylor Lewan’s recent social media post recruiting Clowney to come to Nashville, and he believes the South Carolina product “would be a pretty good fit” with the team.
“I’ve seen what you guys have seen that’s been posted on social media,” Robinson said. “I know he wants to play. I think we would be a pretty good fit for him.”
Robinson is right.
Clowney is already familiar with some of the Titans’ coaches, including head coach Mike Vrabel, who was his defensive coordinator in 2017 with the Houston Texans, the same year he totaled a career-high 9.5 sacks.
Vrabel knows just how to use Clowney, who has experience playing in a 3-4, and if his goal is to sign a one-year “prove-it” deal as recent reports have suggested, Vrabel is just the man to get the most out of him.
