Jon Robinson envisions Titans’ defense with Jadeveon Clowney

The Tennessee Titans have tried to improve their pass-rush with the signing of Vic Beasley this offseason, but there’s no doubt that adding Jadeveon Clowney would put the defense over the top.

Titans general manager, Jon Robinson, has made it clear on multiple occasions that the team is at least interested in Clowney, so naturally the questions about the free-agent pass-rusher keep coming.

On Tuesday, Robinson was once again asked about the possibility of adding Clowney by Paul Kuharsky. In his response, Robinson went on to envision what the team’s defense would look like with the former No. 1 overall pick.

“You’ve got (Harold) Landry, you’ve got (Vic) Beasley, you’ve got Clowney – hypothetically, to your point – you’ve got Jeffery Simmons, you’ve got DaQuan (Jones), who’s got some power rush, you’ve got (Kamalei) Correa who goes 100 miles an hour, you’ve got a lot of different pieces that you can move around,” he said. “And you’ve got athleticism with Landry, with Beasley, with Correa, you can drop those guys into coverage and send David Long, Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown or whoever it might be. It just gives you a lot of chess pieces in that game.”

Robinson noted that he saw Clowney’s most recent workout video, but also reiterated how important it is to bring players in for a physical before signing them — and that’s especially true for a player like Clowney, who had core surgery this offseason.

“What I’ve seen on Twitter, him rushing off the edge and hitting that bag,” he said Tuesday night in a Periscope/ Facebook Live conversation with this site to benefit Safe Haven Family Shelter. “Anytime you are dealing with whatever the contract is going to command, you want to make sure that the player is healthy, that you are able to allow your doctors to see him, to look at it, to make sure everything is going to be good.”

Like all of his suitors, the Titans remain in a holding pattern with Clowney, who has yet to decide where he will play and intends to continue waiting things out in order to secure the best offer possible.

However, one would assume that Clowney will make his decision before training camp starts on July 28, as missing any part of training camp could negatively impact his 2020 campaign.
